Do you want to ensure the correct capture of facial images?
AFIT.QA™ - the Affinity™ Facial Imaging Tool for image capture and captured image quality/compilance assurance; for enrolment use in custody suites, e-passports
, ID Cards etc
AFIT.QA™ software provides a complete application for the capture of images, the provision of reference models and the checking of image conformance at the point of capture. AFIT.QA™ ensures compliance with the norms required – for instance in ICAO compliant passports, Civil Identity solutions and in Criminal Justice applications such as the UK Police FIND programme.
Functionality Overview
- Ensures the correct capture of facial images, measuring them for compliance to the pre-determined standard (such as ISO 19794-5) ready for storage – in a database or on electronic documents such as e-Passports and Driving Licenses
- Displays parameter values for each image – in line with the quality attributes chosen
- Automatically detects eye centres and auto-rotates and auto-crops the source image to create the necessary compliant Token Image (ISO or other)
- Compatible with high quality image capture from a variety of different cameras
Both AFIT.QA™ and AFIT.Batch™ provide the software tools for assessing facial image quality against a chosen standard - such as ISO 19794-5 or the facial image specifications laid down for national criminal justice systems. AFIT.QA™ is the on-line version for use with each image at the point of capture. AFIT.Batch™ is the equivalent tool for off-line batch processing of images.
With AFIT.QA™, as soon as the images have been flagged as suitable they can be stored on file or directly on electronic documents using JPEG, JPEG2000 or other appropriate formats. Any live-captured image flagged as unsuitable can be immediately re-taken with a minimum of extra cost or administration. In the case of AFIT.Batch™, bulk processed images will usually be returned to the appropriate data base when analysis is complete.
Images flagged as non-conformant can be annotated, stored separately or set aside.
AFIT.QA™ incorporates the following functions
- Face Detection and Image Cropping functions
- Automatic detection of the eye positions
- Generation of token and full frontal image types to the required standards
Acquires images from a range of input devices
- Any WDM video camera
- Many popular types of digital compact cameras

- Pose
- Occlusion (Glasses detection/specular reflection)
- Focus/Brightness/Contrast
- Bits-per-pixel (BPP)
- Overall assessment of Compliance (e.g. to ISO 19794-5)

- Image Input/Output Functions: Read / Save images in JPEG, JPEG2000 etc
- Optional Image Enhancement: Brightness, Contrast, Sharpness, Smoothness, Illumination
AFIT.Batch™ incorporates all of the above, plus
- Off-line batch processing - for the generation of conformant Token Images and for analysis, grouping and annotation of non-conformant images - in bulk
Hardware/Software Requirements
- Windows XP with Latest Service Pack; Windows XP .NET 1.1
Benefits
- Consistent and repeatable QA of image conformance
- Savings in throughput time and re-processing costs at the point of image capture and throughout the system due to “right first time” images
- Huge savings in time and effort compared with manual systems
- More effective use of facial image data bases – faster and better results
