Press Release: Free Training to Give Officers Hands-on Advice on Capturing Custody Images

13 August 2009

Face recognition experts OmniPerception will be running a series of free training workshops in three separate venues to help frontline police officers capture and make effective use of images of suspects captured in custody.

The free one-day training courses will also give practical, hands-on advice on the inter-changeability and inter-operability of facial images within and between individual forces.

Courses will also provide a valuable insight into the use of facial image data as an additional 'tool in the box' for criminal investigations as well as how to capture video identification parades as part of the custody process.

Forces including Merseyside, Hertfordshire and City of London currently use Digital Image Booths (DIB) supplied by the DW Group with OmniPerception's AFIT.QA image quality assurance software to take custody images of suspects that are compliant with national standards as laid out by the Police Standards for Digital Image Capture (PICS).

“It's vital that frontline officers are provided with the necessary training and support to allow them to get the best out of this cutting edge technology,” said OmniPerception CEO Stewart Hefferman.  We hope that our training days will provide officers will practical tips and advice about how to achieve this.”

Courses will be run in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire; Guildford in Surrey and also Trawden in Lancashire throughout September.
