Police in Merseyside have adopted computer technology, previously only seen in the movies, that stores faces to help tackle crime.

Beloved of Hollywood scriptwriters for years, computers that can recognise faces are now being put to use fighting crime on Merseyside.

In the past such technology has proved unreliable - a previous trial in London was scrapped after five unsuccessful years.

But recent improvements mean facial recognition software is now finding its way not just into police stations but schools and airports too.
