Real-Time Facial Recognition Case Study

Case Study: Real-Time Facial Surveillance - Casinos

OmniPerception’s real-time facial recognition solution is the ideal choice for the casino market

Casinos around the world face a real challenge in reliably identifying undesirables, barred individuals and self-excluders.  These regulatory and security driven requirements must operate effectively, yet should integrate seamlessly into existing business processes in a way that causes minimum disruption to other customers, or the business itself. Failure to accurately identify these target groups can have a significant financial impact on a casino, making the right solution a key component of the security toolkit.

Visimetrics specialise in the design, development and manufacture of high-performance digital video recording, storage and management systems for video and audio surveillance.  As a well established and highly respected supplier to the casino sector, Visimetrics recognised the sector’s demand for a solution that would accurately and reliably identify banned persons, self-excluders and even VIPs.

After an extensive market research and trials, Visimetrics partnered with face recognition specialist OmniPerception.  OmniPerception’s discreet and world-leading approach to identifying non-compliant subjects in any lighting conditions and in real time made it the ideal solution for this environment.

Although real-time facial recognition has made quite incredible progress in the last couple of years, it was still important to prove the effectiveness of the technology in a demanding environment such as a casino foyer.  Consequently, the OmniPerception facial recognition product was given a simple challenge: head-to-head against the casino reception staff, 14 days, 24/7, who can recognise more people?  Human or machine?

During the trial, both the OmniPerception product and the experienced and knowledgeable receptionists logged everyone entering the building. At the end of the trial, OmniPerception’s facial recognition engine was proven to have correctly recognised many more people than the reception staff.  This is very impressive, as the staff knew they were in direct competition and the staff knew the people they were meant to identify!

Since these early trials, Visimetrics and OmniPerception have built upon these early successes and have jointly developed Playerbook, a real-time facial recognition product specifically for the casino sector.  Utilising the same, world leading facial recognition engine that powers all of OmniPerception’s products, Playerbook will be one of the most important recent additions to the array of security measure deployed by casinos to ensure that their customers are welcomed and that banned and self excluders are recognised in a timely and appropriate manner.

Gary James, Business Development Director at Visimetrics said:

OmniPerception’s live facial recognition solution was simple to install, easy to use and gave great results. All the staff at the casino were impressed by its ability to recognise subjects, even non-compliant ones, in the near-dark environment of the gaming floor."

Visimetrics have been consistently impressed with the performance of OmniPerception in what was a very testing environment. We are now using OmniPerception to power our own PlayerBook™ product.

Charles Smith, Product Manager at OmniPerception said:

We were very happy to be selected by Visimetrics for a trial and subsequent product collaboration. The casino market is one of the most testing for real-time facial recognition, with its dark environments, 24 hour operation and diverse needs, for example VIP customers and self-excluders. Our product performed above all expectations and has proven us to be world-leading in the field of real-time, light-immune facial recognition.

OmniPerception’s facial recognition is a covert or overt real-time facial identification system that works 24/7 and never forgets a face. It has been proven to be vastly superior for identifying wanted people but is also ideal at identifying subjects with special privileges such as employees, security cleared personnel or, in different applications, VIPs.
